Hi there!

I'm Erica Boehm, the writer of Amateur Omnivore. I'm glad you're here!

I love how food can bring people together.  Feeding my friends and family (and myself!) brings me so much joy.  I love hosting dinner parties and I also love just making dinner for two and cuddling up on the couch afterwards with a glass of wine.

Doug, my husband, and I were married in September 2012 and we live in Buffalo, New York with our cat, Oche.  An oche (like hockey, but without the h) is the line one stands behind to shoot darts.  Doug loves darts and strangely (or maybe not), so does Oche.  She hangs out around Doug's feet while he shoots and I'm completely serious, the only time I ever hear her meow is when a dart bounces out of the board to the floor.  Thanks, Och, we saw it too.  Doug is my sous in the kitchen and helps me with the food photography. 

My writing here is an ongoing project to track the food events in my life, the meals I make and those that are made for me.  I want to be more thoughtful about the food I eat, more considerate of the interaction of flavors and textures, and I want to be able to use each post to reflect on what I have cooked and improve the meals I cook in the future.

Before I make a meal at home, I spend a lot of time researching the cooking process and ingredients in the recipe before I dive in.  I'll share the information I learn during that process to save you the leg work and hopefully provide some interesting food fact or tidbit along the way.

The recipes you'll find here may take ten minutes or may have me spending a whole day to prepare.  I find a lot of peace in the kitchen, in creating something with my hands, in that special time spent with Doug, in the happiness of a successful dish and in the humor of an unsuccessful one.
